PROJECT PLANNING

Manageable steps

It can be paralyzing to tackle a big project — including a project that may not objectively be “big” but feels that way to you.

An often useful way to begin is an approach that one of my clients calls “reverse engineering.”

• Identify the start and end dates.

• Next, identify the major items that need to happen for your project to become a reality.

• From there, we can figure out the steps in each major item, its various components, the estimated time to complete them, etc.

• We keep refining this approach as needed to serve as a road map that will be more do-able to plan, execute and track progress.
